The burned land of Zulthan
The continent of Zulthan covers close to a third of the world, divded into the lands of Char'attar and Lathos. Char'attar is mostly covered by dormant sand and eroded mountains, paying homage to the name it carries now. Char'attar, meaning Scortched earth is a name given to it by the first people who wandered through its seemingly endless oceans of dust. In past times, it was green and lushesly forested for the most part. Now simple constructions gently sail across the desert surface, small nomad tribes that move from place to place in a constant search for food and water.
Some of these journeys are undertaken by massive convoys of traders, seeking their way to one of the grande markets, such as the golden market of Sen'dari. Most of the people live around or near these markets, or have still retained their ancestral nomad lifestyle.
Char'Attar is known as the great desert continent. It's a part of Zulthan, a highly magical and technologically advanced world.
Most people live in either one of the great cities or as nomads, travelling from place to place.
Char'Attar has a few main characteristics.
- There are many traders in this world. The world is rich in materials, minerals and other goods, but they are often available in only a single area. This has led to the creation of a vast trading network all around the main continent of Char'Attar.
- There is a constant war going on between the forces of the Enlightened Celestials and Forgotten Infernals. Ever since the events of The Shattering, the world has become a permanent battleground, sandwiched between two planes that have manifested themselves on the continent. Celestials, Demons and Devils battle on a daily basis. The inhabitants of Char'Attar have been forced to choose a side in this battle. Most people have chosen to go with the Celestials, but some chose to join up with either a demon or the Devils.
- Many scars into the blind eternity manifested themselves unto the continent, leading to various different planes. From the nine hells to the palace of Bahamut, from the feywild, to the abyss.
- The shattering has also blessed the world with soul anchors, and crystals with various use cases. There are special crystal artifacts, used by cities to keep their inhabitants save. Anyone that dies in an unnatural way but is linked to a nearby soul anchor will be resurrected near the soul anchor. These artifacts have kept most cities out of the inter-planar conflict.
Other crystals are used to empower magic users, or devices of industry, and has helped this baren world become somewhat developed, regardless of its barenness.
